What is the endosymbiotic hypothesis about the origin of mitochondria?
Answer Posted / Robin Gupta
The Endosymbiotic Hypothesis suggests that mitochondria originated from aerobic bacteria that lived inside ancient eukaryotic cells approximately 1.5 to 2 billion years ago. This theory explains how eukaryotic cells came to possess organelles with their own DNA and ribosomes, which are characteristic of prokaryotes.
