The primary functions of the plant cell wall are structural support, protection, and regulation of growth and expansion. The cell wall provides a barrier against mechanical stresses from the environment and also helps maintain the shape and structure of the cell. Additionally, the cell wall plays a role in controlling cell growth and expansion by regulating the uptake and release of water.
