Describe Telomerase Activity ?

Answer Posted / Anuradha Verma

Telomerase is an enzyme that adds DNA repeats (TTAGGG) to the ends of chromosomes, known as telomeres. In most human cells, telomerase activity is low or absent due to epigenetic silencing, leading to progressive shortening of telomeres during cell divisions. However, in cancer cells and stem cells, telomerase is active, allowing for telomere elongation and infinite replication.
