(1) Functional Specification Form: The most common form used for writing functional specifications is the IEEE Std 2911-2013, also known as the Functional Requirements Document (FRD). However, other forms such as Use Case Diagrams and Activity Diagrams may be used as well.
(2) Steps in Functional Specifications: The steps involved in writing functional specifications include: (a) Identifying system goals and objectives. (b) Defining functional requirements for each component or module of the system. (c) Describing input, output, and error conditions for each function. (d) Listing functional tests to validate the correctness of the system.
