What is the major difference between Normal control loop
and Cascade control loop and when to use cascade control
loop?
Answer Posted / Tripuresh Misra
Normal control loop, also known as a single-loop controller, directly measures the output variable of a process and compares it with the setpoint. It then adjusts the actuator to minimize the error between the measured output and the setpoint.
Cascade control loop consists of two or more control loops, where the output of one control loop acts as the setpoint for another control loop. The inner loop controls a fast responding variable, while the outer loop handles a slow responding variable. This arrangement allows better separation of time constants, enhancing overall system stability and performance. Cascade control is typically used when dealing with complex systems or processes where separating the loops helps to improve control accuracy.
