Animals with larger bodies often have larger brains because a large body requires complex control and coordination, which is provided by a larger brain. This relationship between body size and brain size is known as the allometric scaling law. Larger brains require more energy to function, which increases metabolism. However, not all animals with larger brains have higher metabolic rates. Some animals like hibernators or those that slow down their metabolism during certain periods can have large brains and still conserve energy. As for longevity, there is no definitive relationship between brain size and lifespan. Some long-lived species like octopuses have small brains compared to their body size.
