The brown bear (Ursus arctos) and the polar bear (Ursus maritimus) are considered the largest and second-largest land carnivores, respectively. However, they are actually classified as omnivores, feeding on a diet that primarily consists of vegetation but also includes large prey such as deer and seals. The second-largest true (obligate) carnivore is the Amur tiger (Panthera tigris altaica), native to northeastern China and Russia.
