Why fe3+ ion is more stable than fe2+ ion is?

Answer Posted / Anmol Kumar

Fe3+(iron(III)) is more stable than Fe2+(iron(II)) due to the lower energy state of the 3+ ion. This is a result of the reduced number of electrons and stronger electrostatic attractions between the positive ions and surrounding negative charges in the lattice.
