How to culture C. elegans ?

Answer Posted / Subash Chandra Yadav

Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) is a free-living nematode that can be cultured on agar plates seeded with Escherichia coli as a food source. To prepare the plates, bacterial cultures are grown overnight in liquid media, then poured onto agar plates and allowed to solidify. The plates are then incubated at 20°C until they are covered with a lawn of bacteria. C. elegans worms are added to the plate and fed with the E. coli bacteria.
