When recording an IR spectrum in the lab, we take no special precautions to account for the presence of oxygen, nitrogen, or argon in the air. What are the consequences of this?
Answer Posted / b.gangatharan
Argon gas consists of individual atoms which can not undergo molecular vibration .So argon is IR inactive.oxygen & Nitrogen is having dipole moment zero during vibration.so Oxygen&Nitrogen is IR inactive.hence it is not necessary to consider this gases during IR analysis.
