. Generlly aciddic pH of even about 5 will slowly corrode the boilerso alkaline pH is preferred also in power plants where steam turbines are used The aim is to keep the silica as soluble form else SiO2 will get volatilised in high pressure condition of the boiler and get deposited on the turbine blades along with the steam. Hence to convert the collolidal silica to reactive silica we use alkaline pH.
