Basically there are only three types of maintenance i.e.
1. Preventive maintenance
2. Predictive maintenance
3. Reactive Maintenance
Preventive maintenance - Every parts connected with a machine have a particular life in the terns of running hour, After this life the running of equipment there is big chance to failure of parts / equipment catastrophic risk etc The life of spare parts we find either by manual of machine or the vendor who manufactures the machine .after finding the original life we make a schedule to perfoem the maintenance activity of each parts as per their respective running hour to avoid breakdown .
Predictive maintenance - in this type of maintenance we predict the condtion of equipment as per schedule . Mostly condition measuring tools of equipment are viberation, temp. , Thickness ,flow , noise ,lubrication wear particle analysis .Initially we make a base line for these parameter for correct operation and compare it with as per predictve schedle data found . any sudden change in parameter will alert us to take maintenance of equipment and by this we avoid breakdown .
Reactive maintenance - Some time it is called as Break down Maintenance
