what is kernel panic error ? how will you fix it if you have
face it after rebooting without the the help of rescue disk ?

i watched this question in Linux category, if i am the interviewer, and saw u quote mac os x as example, u will be failed. And also, keep rebooting the machine does not help, rescuing the unsaved data also not your mission.
I believe the cause of kernel panic you stated are correct but you didnt tell the way to face it
