why anti tibercular drugs are to be taken for long time about

M.tuberculosis exists both intracellularly(inside the cell)
and extracellularly in our body tissues and also their
generation time is longer than other bacteria(just 20min for
other) that is about 16 -20 hours. Antibiotic can effectively
kill the organisms only during their multiplication.
1. due intracellular presentation
2. due to longer multiplication period
3. to prevent drug resistance
The ATT(Anti tubercular therapy) is given for longer period of
time in combination of 4 to 5 drugs...(note only few drugs act
intracellularly. Also if single drug is given they will easily
develop drug resistance)
