Active immunity is the one acquired either by having a diseases or sub-clinical infection or by administration of vaccines.
Passive immunity is acquired either before birth by passage of maternal antibodies across the placenta to the fetus,and to the babies on breast milk or by administration of ready made antibodies in the human serum.
