The heat of the sun reaches us and the intervening air is
not heated up Why ?
Answer Posted / satish
The Sun's heat is transmitted by radiation. Almost all
gases (except greenhouse gases) are transparent to
radiation so they dont heat up. The atmosphere is warmed up
due to conduction with the ground and theresfter,
convection in the air. That is why there is time lag in the
heating up of the Earth (whichincludes i t's atmsphere).
Additionally, the presence of greenhouse gases in the
atmsphere resuls in the Sun's radiation being absorbed
directly as they pass the atmsphere resulting in warmer
atmsphere, or greenhouse warming.
