What types of primary structures destabilize helices?

Answer Posted / kurt heller

the question may be in error

helices are atabilized by by hydrogen bonds between peptide
groups

some aminoacids like: gly, pro, ser do not like to be
inside a helix, because they break the hydrogenbonding
pattern within a helix

aminoacids like: thr, ile and val have beta-carbons which
restricts the way the sidechains sticking out from the
helix can pack together

the acid aminoacide: glu and asp prefre the N-teminal end,
because the helic is a dipole
the opposite is true for the basic aminoacids: arg and lys

the rest is mostly indifferent<, take a look at Chou and
Fasman statestics for aminoacids for helices
