what happens to the period of a simple pendulum taken into
a deep mine ?

Answer Posted / john rhoades

The period of a simple pendulum will increase. The lower into the Earth you go, the less gravity is exerted on the pendulum. The period of a pendulum is given by this formula:

T = 2*pi*(L/g)^.5.

That is to say the period of pendulum is proportional to the square root if it's length, and inversely proportional to the square root of local gravity. Therefor as gravity DECREASES the inverse relationship means the period INCREASES.
