what is the chemistry of cellulose?

Answer Posted / ramya

The molecular weight of cellulose is between 200,000 and
2,000,000.It is formed by taking out a molecule of water
from the glycosidic oh group on carbon atom 1 of one
beta -d- glucose molecule and alcoholic OH group on
carbon atom of the adjasceent beta-d- glucose molecule.it
resambles in its structure with amylose except that the
glucose units are linked together by beta-1,4-glucoside
linkages.Cellulose is actually an anhydride of beta-d-
glucose units.
