Spines and Thorns as in answer #1.
Prickles are usually small, usually stiff, usually sharp-
pointed outgrowths of the epidermis or bark of a plant.
Examples of prickles are the pokey projections on
blackberries (Rubus spp), Roses (Rosa spp) and Kapok trees
(Ceiba spp).
