Each gill is crescent shaped and attached to segmental wall
by means of gillroot .
EACH GILL CONSISTS OF triangular gillbase which bears a
number of leaflike rhomboidal gillplates arranged in such a
way yhat larger plates lie in middle and smaller ones
towards sides.
in between two rows runs a deep median longitudinal groove
opening into gill chamber.
A gill with such a structure is called PHYLLOBRANCH.
