Absolutely not. Focus on the low power and make your way
to high power, adding immersion oil as you flip
objectives. When you're finished and you want to keep the
slide just dab off the excess oil and place it in a slide
holder. Make sure you clean off the objective with some
lens paper. If none is available then blotting gently with
a Kimwipe will do. Just don't wipe with it because it
scratches easily. A coverslip CAN be used to make a
permanent slide, but it must be a glass coverslip applied
with fixative and allowed to dry. There are also some
(expensive) automated coverslip devices available for high
volume facilities since it can be a messy process.
