Fuel is defined as an combustible substance which may be
burn to supply heat energy without the production of excess
of by products
Good fuel should have following requisites:-
(1)It should be sharp.
(2)Should yield little ash
(3)On burning these should not give any undesirable products
(4)It should have a high heat content
Fuels are of following types:
(a)Solid duels:-These are derived from plants directly or
indirectly and wood, coal ,coke etc..
(b)Liquid fuels:-These leave no ash e.g. Petroleum, alcohol
etc..
(c)Gaseous fuels:-Combustible gases make excellent fuels
Fuel gases:-These gases can flow through pipes and can be
used at a moment?s notice. These gases have high heat
contents. Important fuel gases are:-
1. Water gas
2. Semiwater gas
3. Oil gas
4. Sewage gas
5. Producer gas
6. Coal gas
