Explain the difference between the Metals and Metallurgy ?
Answer Posted / guest
Metals:-
(1) State: Metals are solids at ordinary temp and at high
temp. these volatilizes
(2) Lustre: Metals are mostly shining in appearance
(3) Hardness: Metals are generally hard
(4) Metals are generally mealle-able ductile and tenacious
(5) Specific gravity of metals is high
(6) Metals are generally good conductors of heat and electricity
(7) Atomicity: Molecules of metals in the vapour state are
usually monoatomic
(8) Metals from alloys with other metals
(9) Basic oxides are formed by metals
(10)Metals do not form hydrides, if formed, then these are
unstable
(11) Metals are insoluble except by chemical reactions
(12) Metals are electro- positive in character
Non-Metals:-
(1) These are either gases at ordinary temp, or luquids and
solids which volatilizes at low temp. except carbon, born
and silicon
(2) These possess no metallic luster except iodine and graphite.
(3) Diamond is the hardest substance known. In these non
metal hardness varies
(4) Non-metals do not possess meallability ductility, or
tenacity
(5) Specific gravity is generally low
(6) Non-metals are poor conductors of heat and electricity
(7) Non-metals in vapour state contain poly atomic molecules
(8) These do not form alloys
(9) Non-metals form acidic oxides
(10)Non-Metals are soluble even without chemical reactions
(11)Non-metals from stable hydrides
(12)These are electro-negative in chararter
