Growth of a plant has generally be believed due to the
mineral and the food material but it is bow seen that growth
of the plant is regulated by certain chemical substances
which are synthesized by plants in very small quantities.
These help in growth and development of plant. These are
known as harmones.
Plant hamones:-There are two major groups of these harmones
(a)Auxins
(b)Girbberellins
(a)Auxins e.g. inole-3-acetic acid, indole-butyric acid,
heteroauxin, phenyl acetix acid etc.
Applications of Auxins:-
(1) Cell division. Auxins are know to be responsible for
initiating and promoting cell division in plants.
(2) Shortending of internodes.
(3) Prevention of lodging.
(4) Root Initiation.
(5) Apical dominance and dormancy.
(6) Prevention of Abscission layer.
(7) Production of parthenocarpic fruits.
(8) Flower initation.
Gibberellins:- Also help in cell enlargement, internode,
elongation, root elongation etc.
