A balloon constructed in Calcutta during July-August was
found to show cracks at most wooden joints when received at
Ferozepore in December. What is the probable cause ?

At Calcutta in July and August, the atmosphere is damp,
whereas at Ferozepore in December it is dry and cold. At
Ferozepore the moisture in the wood has a tendency to get
dried and contract, and hence it cracks.
