Why is sometimes a succession of echoes heard ?

When there are two opposite reflecting surface at a proper
distance, reflection of sound waves takes place
alternatively form the two walls. When there are a number of
surfaces at suitable distance, then reflection of sound
takes place t all such surfaces, and hence a succession of
echoes is heard.
