While traveling westwards, we go away from the sun and so
the dawn occurs a little later than it would if we were at
rest. The earth?s rotation period appears a little less than
the period of time between two successive risings of the
sun. Therefore, the days are longer, and by the time we have
reached the far side of the earth an extra day has lost.
Hence in order to keep the correct local time, we have to
put back the clock continually.
