The three layers of the shell are periostracum,prismatic
layer and nacreous layer.
periostracum is outerlayer brown in colour made up of
conchiolin.protects inner parts from carrodic action of
carbonic acid.
prismatic layer made up of calcium carbonates arranged in
alinear fashion .
nacreous layer is inner layer smooth made up of calcium
carbonate and chonchiolin arranged in an alternate layers.
