Question { 8774 }

What is the use of Exciter in generator? & what will be the
current of Exciter in 500 KVA DG Set?

Answer

Every Generator needs field supply in Rotor. Exciter has
two main parts One is Pilot excitor and other is Main
Excitor. Pilot Excitor consists of Permanent Magnet which
will produce AC Voltage in stator. This voltage is passed
through AVR and Rectifier and given back to the stator of
the Main Excitor, which will induce the AC voltage in
Rotor. This Voltage is passed through the Diode Rectifier
wheel assemble which is mounted on same shaft and Rectified
voltage is given to the Rotor of Generator.
Please note that this ans is relavent to the Power Plant
Generator not DG.

Question { 10475 }

If the neutral wire go pass through the core balance current
transformer? If yes then why? and no then why?

Answer

If Current Flowing through the cable is balanced then
output of the CBCT through which the cable is passing is
zero. If you pass the Neutral through the CBCT and if fault
occurs then part of fault current will flow through the
Neutral which will also travel through the CBCT and CBCT
will not produce any output hence Protection will not
operate. Hence Neutral should not be passed through the CBCT
