Question { 9958 }

What is hierarchy?

Answer

A hierarchy is a method of displaying a characteristic
structured and grouped according to individual evaluation
criteria.

A hierarchy is created from nodes. The relationships
between the nodes are defined as follows:

* The uppermost node is the root. There can be more than
one root. They do not have a superior node.
* Exactly one other node is directly superior to each
node (except for the uppermost node).

Hierarchy Levels

All nodes on the same level of the hierarchy (nodes that
are the same distance away from the root) form a hierarchy
level. The roots of a hierarchy form level 1. The level of
a node denotes the distance from the node to the root.

Leaves

The leaves of a hierarchy consist of characteristic values
for the basic characteristic and therefore can also have
entries in the fact table. In contrast to nodes that can be
posted, a leaf cannot have any subnodes.

Line item is used for performance tuning.

If the dimension tables contains more records than fact
table(Query performance will be poor) at that time we use
line item.

Question { Wipro, 11763 }

Define ODS?

Answer

An ODS object acts as a storage location for consolidated
and cleaned-up transaction data (transaction data or master
data, for example) on the document (atomic) level.

It describes a consolidated dataset from one or more
InfoSources. This dataset can be evaluated using a BEx
query.

Structure

Every ODS object is represented on the database by three
transparent tables:

Active data: A table containing the active data (A table)

Activation queue: For saving ODS data records that are to
be updated but that have not yet been activated. The data
is deleted after the records have been activated.

Change log: For updating delta from the ODS Object into
other data targets, such as ODS Objects or InfoCubes for
example.
