Can you explain the pharmacological mechanism of Alprazolam and how it interacts with the central nervous system?
Answer / Munendra Pal Singh
Alprazolam is a benzodiazepine, which acts by binding to specific receptors in the brain called GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) receptors. These receptors are associated with inhibitory neurotransmitters that promote relaxation and reduce excitability in the central nervous system. By enhancing the effects of GABA, Alprazolam decreases the activity of neurons, resulting in a sedative effect that reduces anxiety symptoms.
