what is the difference between the microcontroller and PLC?

In inside the industry the temprature, pressure, voltage, current everything should be high, a normal microcontroller cant withstand these all things, so instead of that plc is used. The plc can withstand any temprature pressure anything, and also the plc can contain many number of inputs and outputs, and it can be expandable.
