what is a steel formula

Answer Posted / mr.s.yuvaraj

Weight of bar per meter = Area of steel bar X Density of steel x Length of bar
= (3.14 x D2/4) x 7850 kg/m3 x 1000 mm
= (3.14 x D2/4) x 1000 x 7850 / (1000 x 1000 x 1000)
= D2 X 785.714285714286 x 0.00000785
= D2 X 0.006162
= D2 X 1/(0.006162)
= (D2/162.28)

In foundation design, while we do the base pressure check, we normally check if the attained pressure value is less than the GROSS BEARING CAPACITY of the soil which is the sum of net bearing capacity of soil and the overburden pressure. Actually, the overburden pressure acts against the net bearing capacity of the soil and I feel that we are actually increasing the bearing capacity value and doing the check. I feel that this is NOT right. Please clarify on this.

5. Two long boundary walls run parallel to each other at a center to center distance of 1 meter apart. The width and height of the first wall are 0.30 m and 2.5m respectively. While those of the second are respectively 0.18m and 3.5m. Plot the distribution of vertical stress intensity due to walls on a horizontal plane, 1m below ground level. The walls have negligible depth of foundation and are made of brick masonry (y = 19.2 kN/m cu)
