Subnetting are of 2 types
1) vlsm- in which a particular network is divided into subnetworks (with different subnetmask) as per the required number of hosts per subnetwork. It is better than flsm as the ip address are not much wasted
2) flsm- subnetworks have same subnetmask, due to which in some subnetwork ip address are wasted which include less number of hosts as compared to other subnetworks
