Why we use 50Hz sine wave for AC?

Answer Posted / gosu ramesh

Tesla invented ac. he uses 6ohz for that ac, because it time
compatible, means 60sec and 60hz, so it is easy ti
understand and for calculation also, more over as frequency
increases system size will reduces but too much increase in
frequency will increases losses.so a satisfactory frequency
is selected by tesla i.e 60hz.But in india we are using
50hz, to reduce the losses the power system network. for
operating with 60hz we need lot of money to compensate the
losses with the increase in frequency.
