Whenver any large inductive load like large rating motors
or capacitor bank is energised ,due to high inrush current
the voltage drop in the cable/line took place this result
into voltage dip in the system. Also, in case of fault in
electrical network the current shoot up extremely high and
voltage dip in the system may be noticed.
Voltage swell may be observed when inductive load on the
electrical network is suddenly thrown off as the energy
stored in the motor( inductive in nature ) can not last in
a very short time as the inductor takes times to last its
energy.In this situation 1/2 LISquare= 1/2 Cv Square and
voltage starts increasing. Other reason of voltage swell is
the lightening. During lightening, voltage induced in the
conductor may be superimosed on the power frequency and
this may lead to swell in voltage.
