at the time of starting there is high magnitude of current
flowing in the stator winding.this is about 5 to 7 times the
full load current.such large current may harm the
equipment.this high value of current may cause objectionable
voltage drop in the power supply lines feeding the
equipment.so starters are used to minimize the abrupt
increase of the current.

mostly the questions were from machines... d.c. machines, transformer, synchronous and induction all theory paper........ few from power system... but the level of paper was easy.....
how to calculate power consumption in slip ring motor at different step
at work we have a 3 phase motor but on testing one phase isnt getting a reading. it runs 24 hours a day all week. stops and starts well no noise or heating. the phase isnt down to earth.is it just a bad meter reading or not? phases one and three came up with a resistance reading of 0.4 but phase 2 couldnt get anything shows up as open circuit.
