Is there any other method of damping the oscillation in a
synchronous motor other than using damper winding and if yes
what is it?

Answer Posted / vijendra joglekar

Actually the main reasons for using damper winding in
synchronous motor for starting purpose i mean as we know
the syncronous motor is a inherently strting motor the
other method used for starting a synchronous motor is a
the rotor speeded up by another motor called a pony motor
to its synchronous or near syncronous speed then the
exciting current of motor s switched on the moment rotor
poles are excited ,they mechanically get interlocked with
the stator poles of opposite polarity.Rotor poles are
engaged with the stator poles and both run synchronously in
the sae direction.

Sorry guys the answer is too lenthy please read twice or
thrice in order to get understand..
