what is the significance of KV & MVA rating of the
transformer and how they are related.

kV means kilo Volts, and is 1000 V. So 10kV means 10 000V.
This is the operating voltage. You must have another voltage
in the transformer. One is for the primary, and the other
for the secondary.
MVA means Mega Volt Ampere and is the power of the transformer.
1 MVA = 1 000 000 VA.
For example. If you have a transformer 10kV/400V and with 1
MVA, this means that at full charge is able to delivery in
the secodanry 1 000 000 VA / 400 V = 2 500 A.
He must be connect at a power line 10 kV and will delivery
400 V (till the load of the seconary reach 2 500A, after
that the value of the tension in the secondary begins to
drop, but this is another story).
In the primary the current will be 1 000 000 VA / 10 000 V =
100 A (at full charge).
