What are instrument transformers?

Answer Posted / mahesh-lanco

instrument transformers are used to measure high voltage
&current usually in transmision system. As the measuring
instruments are not up to larger values, for example if any
faul occurs KAmps of currentmay be generated there is no
equipment or measring meters are available. For this
Instrument transfrmers (potential Transforers,Current
Trasnsformers)are comes into picture.
Usually secondaries of the Current and Voltage transformers
standardised to 5Amps and 110Volts respectively.
