A pulse transformer is a transformer that is designed for
transmitting RECTANGULAR ELECTRICAL PULSES(pulses with fast
rise and fall times) of a relatively CONSTANT AMPLITUDE. A
Pulse transformers by definition have a duty cycle of less
than 0.5.
Small power versions are used in digital logic and
telecommunications circuits.
Medium-sized power versions are used in power-control
circuits such as camera flash controllers.
Larger power versions are used in the electrical power
distribution system.
To minimise distortion of the pulse shape,a pulse
transformer needs to have
1)Low values of leakage inductance and distributed
capacitance.
2)High insulation resistance and high breakdown voltage.
3)Good transient response.
