if the reinforcement is placed on the tension zone the beam
is termed as singly reinforced beam(GENERALLY BELOW THE NEUTRAL AXIS IN CASE OF BEAMS REST ON TWO Supports i.e.SIMPLY SUPPORTED BEAM & ABOVE THE NEUTRAL AXIS IN CASE OF CANTILEVER BEAM.)
If the reinforcement is placed on both tension and
compression zone the beam is called doubly reinforced beam.
