In case of a beam ,main steel is provided along the longer
span because, bending moment is directly proportional to
length but why in case of one way slab main steel is
provided along shorter span while as bending takes place
along longer span?comment

Any suspended horizontal member is designed to span between supports. Since the supports for beam is at the ends (and not on either side of the beam!!!), it is natural that the main steel is along the length.
In case of one way slab, it is supported on all four sides. It can, hence, be designed as spanning in any direction. When you have this choice, it makes sense to design it as spanning along the shorter direction since the moments would obviously be lower in the shorter direction.
