suppose that there is a gas turbine of 110MW having 3
stages, and compressor having 17 stages. what will happend
when the stages of turbine increses to 6.
Answer Posted / mob
The stages of turbine are decided or designed for optimum
expansion or in other words to fully capture the chemical
energy of gases and convert them to mechanical energy. .
By providing more stages, ideally the final pressure and
temperature outputs would be reduced ultimately leading to
higher output and efficiency but in actual it is not so.
For the gases to travel through the stages a certain pre-
fixed pressure value determined by OEM is required and also
the final output pressure should be at a higher value
compared to ambient for the exhaust to move up the stack.
Also by adding extra stages, thermal degradation of
material at exhaust could occur.
