by using phase splitter ( having capacitorin series with
firing angle delayed as 12 ,240 ) we use 1 phse as three
phase

Why do we mostly prefer to generate and distribute electricity in 3 phase and not in 4 phase or 5 phase?
Does the direction of rotation of d.c. Shunt motor would get reversed if the armature current and field current both are reversed?
I don't understand why when we connect high voltage source in DC to electronic motor , we must add capacitor and resistor in parallel ?
