.net platform independent or dependent?

Exactly to tell its not independent, as its developed by
Microsoft and best runs on windows OS. A free open source is
released for other OS, but its not that compatible. But
still is said independent.

.net is platform dependent b/c its work on only microsoft
environment(windos os).
