What happens when in background when we shutdown SAP (Both
central & Database) & where is the log stored. Also when we
apply the Patches, what exactly is running in background..

Hi,
1.What happens when in background when we shutdown SAP

Here is the sequence of what happen in the background-what
ever ur os might be.
If its abap+java system
First java apps goes down,then java dispatcher,then abap
work process, then abap dispatcher,,then the message
server.. All the logs will be written in usr\sap\..\work
2.Also when we apply the Patches, what exactly is running
in background..
I assume that you are talking about Support packs.
What is actually happening in background is is updating the
objects,,components-this depens upon the type of support
pack.
in OS level tp and r3trans process are used.
The logs are written in usr\sap\trans\log and intermediate
temp logs are written in usr\sap\trans.
