In 2006, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) redefined the term 'planet', and as a result, Pluto no longer qualifies. It was reclassified as a 'dwarf planet' because it does not meet all three criteria: it orbits the sun, it is spherical, and it has cleared its orbit of other debris. However, some people still consider Pluto a planet due to its historical significance.
