In SAP FI-CO, a Fiscal Year consists of multiple periods. A Normal Period represents a standard accounting period within the fiscal year (e.g., month or quarter). A Special Period is an additional period that can be created for specific purposes, such as year-end closing or consolidation. The number of normal and special periods can vary depending on business requirements, but it's common to have 12 normal periods for a calendar year and one or more special periods.
